My name is Ashley Garza! I am a graduate of UT Austin with a degree in Applied Learning and Development. I am general and special education certified, with experience at every age level of special education from PPCD to 18+ programs.
I have been working with students with disabilities professionally since 2015, and prior spent my school years working closely in special education departments as a volunteer. I have always found a home working with high needs populations and find a lot of joy in having made it my living.
I look forward to offering a helping hand to help parents feel more confident navigating the tricky world of special education, and to help maximize the independence and success of every student I work with.
Through advocacy services we are committed to helping parents feel more involved with their child's education, and to creating individualized plans that let each child find joy and growth every day at school.
Creating these individualized plans is such an important process with impactful consequences for each student, but these documents are often muddled by legal terminology that makes it difficult for parents to take up their role as committee members. We work to remedy this gap in time and knowledge so parents feel empowered to make decisions to give their child every opportunity at school.
We offer a wide range of programs designed to meet the unique needs of each child we serve. These can include homeschooling and tutoring services, functional and behavioral skill support, and parent training for home programs.
It is our mission to provide completely individualized lessons and interventions to help students learn and grow in ways that are most important for their lives. We maintain frequent and clear communication with parents and other team members (therapy providers and school staff) to coordinate strategies and content to maximize understanding.

*Working with an advocate is not only something to do if you feel something is wrong, but is also a great way to become more comfortable understanding the SPED process so you can take a more active role in your child’s education!*
This includes reviewing and editing IEPs, BIPs, FBAs, and FIEs (Evaluations), coordinating with the school via email to ensure all documents and agreed upon changes are in order, and working with parents to answer questions and promote family priorities.
Parent meetings typically consist of going over school recommendations and parsing out any concerns and requests from parents to ensure they are addressed and included in the student's school plan and life.
School meetings consist of ARD meetings and parent conferences. Here I work with the school to go through the proposed plan and/or documents in detail. I will make sure that all agreed upon proposals are appropriately written in, that parent concerns and requests are well represented, and that parents feel confident in their understanding of that which they are agreeing to implement.
